Kódex po latinsky Codex znamená kniha, forma rukopisov ktorá sa začala užívať od 2. stor..
Kódex na rozdiel od zvitkov, bol podĺžke zviazaný to umožnilo rýchlejšie nájdenie hľadaných miest a dovolilo písať na obe strany papyrusu alebo pergamenu.
